I just got my increment

How much you worth determine how your employer will pay you.

Many peoples submitted to what the companies pay them; even they could 'see' that the economy is picking up. Other then government sectors they always have their annual increment, most companies still pay what they think their employees should be paid. Are you one of them?

I was one of them. As I am getting senior (in term of age), without upgrading my other skill besides the IT industry I am working with, I felt a threaten if my employer doesn't extend my contract when it is due – I am a contract staff, this is what many Singaporean are facing, I was submitted to what they paid me, even without annual increment.

After attending some seminars on personal development, I then realize that I did not use my only resource (my brain) I mentioned before to optimize my income. With that in mind, I started to upgrade myself in several areas that could generate income, and clearly explain to my boss what I am doing now. Instead of making my employer to control how much they should pay me, when I have increased my value, they have offered a better package to me so to expect that at least I could serve until the end of the contract.

This is my real story. Keep upgrading yourself and increase your value, design what you plan to do, and not let others plan for you.
